The science of sound reproduction from a record

The record player is a machine that is built to reproduce sound from the records. These discs are called records because the sound has been recorded on these discs. The sound is kind of etched on these discs. The discs that we are talking about here are coated with a layer of vinyl which helps in recording the sound on its surface with the help of a needle.

When the sound is recorded a needle that is attached to the diaphragm of the amplifier keeps moving on the surface of the vinyl coated disc. This needle makes grooves of the surface of the disc which are retraceable. These retraceable grooves are then retraced by the needle of the record player. The vibrations thus produced are sent to the cartridge. This cartridge then converts these vibrations into electric signals which reach the amplifier and are produced as sound.

Though the science that is involved in the working mechanism of the record player is simple the hard work that has gone behind discovering the theory and developing the record players is commendable. It is because of this hard work that the world of music is being able to enjoy so much fame and glory.
